A
House Portrait makes an unusual and thoughtful gift - the perfect
present for a friend who is moving house, for example, a lovely memento
of their home and so individual that it's impossible to guess the price -
which is true of any painting given as a present.
The advantage of a painting over a photograph is that the season can be changed to show a favourite bush in flower or an unsightly feature such as overhead cables or the neighbour's washing can be omitted. The same applies whether it's a house portrait, a pet portrait or a portrait of a person -the background detail and colour can be changed.
Below are some examples of house portraits which were painted as commissions. As you can see often there is more garden than house and the best compositions are often the ones showing a favourite corner of the garden with just a partial view of the house.
Like any painting it's subjective & there is no right or wrong - if you like it, that's what counts. A portrait, whether it's a portrait of a person, a house portrait or a pet portrait, aims to capture the character and personality and so the more information you can give about what you'd like to achieve the better: and the more photographs the better too.
If you'd like a House Portrait for yourself or for a friend simply email some photographs to andreapeers@yahoo.co.uk and say what size you'd like (20 x 30 cms or 30 x 40 cms are the most common but you can stipulate any size you want - See the page on pricing, which also gives advice on how to choose the size - The governing factor is the detail and complexity of the composition - combining two different photographs to make a more pleasing picture, for instance.
We can chat by email or phone to discuss your ideas and when your painting is finished a photograph of it will be emailed to you for your approval and the original will be posted to you.
